Replacement Glider Cushions

Whether you’re reading a book on your deck or rocking a baby to sleep at night, gliders are a great, incredibly comfortable way to pass the time. However, with too much use, the glider cushions will eventually wear out or need cleaned. Old or dirty cushions can make your room or patio look worn out or not cared for.

However, cleaning your glider rocker cushions or buying new ones makes you chair look brand new and can even give a different look and feel to the room. Even if you don't need new cushions, but just want a change of style or pace in your room, replacement cushions can be for you. There are a multitude of different cushions that you can choose from, just make sure that you find one that matches your home and fits on your chair.

If you’ve kept your glider chair outside or any length of time, you know that eventually even the best cushions made to resist mold and mildew will begin to lose their luster.  Luckily, upkeep on these cushions is easy.  If there isn’t too much dirt of damage on the glider cushion, simply take your hose and spray the cushion down until it’s clean.  When you’re done, make sure to lay it out in the sun so that it doesn’t develop mildew again.

If your cushion has tougher stains on it, you can use mildew sprays or mild bleach as well.  Be careful to use spray that are gentle on fabric however, otherwise you might end up permanently fading or otherwise discoloring your fabrics.

Of course, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.  If you’re concerned about your cushions becoming mildewed and faded, store them inside when they’re not in use.

Indoor cushions are a little bit different than outdoor cushions because they aren’t made to withstand rain, sun, and snow.  If your indoor cushions get stained or dirty, try a mild solution of cleaner on them or even rug cleaner.  If they’re really stained, you could even use a full-blown rug shampooer on them.  Just make sure to always follow the manufacturer’s instructions on cleaning the fabric.  If you don’t do this, you risk destroying the cushion completely.

If the cushions on your glider are really worn out, one option is to try to buy replacement cushions.  If you choose to go this route, there are a few things that you should pay attention to.

First, before you go anywhere, measure your glider to find the size of cushion that you need.  Even the most comfy, beautifully designed cushion doesn’t do you any good if it doesn’t fit on your chair.

If you’re buying cushions for outside, always make sure that you look for cushions that are water-resistant, fade-resistant, and, if you can find them, mold and mildew-resistant.  While indoor cushions won’t need to be able to withstand the same beating that outdoor ones take, it would be a good idea to find cushions that are stain resistant, especially if you have a chair that young children will be using.  Scotch-guard and other coatings are great to help protect fabrics.

Finally, find a color and pattern that you like in the cushion.  Make sure that it fits all the surrounding furniture and décor in the room.  A brand new replacement cushion can add a new look and feel to almost any room.
